Parent Committees

Expectations for Parents

A mandatory parent meeting will be held September 4, 2024 at 7pm at the Kaysville Library located at 215 N Fairfield Street in Kaysville. A parent for each dancer must attend and sign up for a parent committee to provide volunteer hours for the production. Details on the parent committees will be provided at the meeting.

Committee Types

Parents must register for one of the following committees:

Chaperone – We get to help kids get ready to go on stage and celebrate with them when they come off! It is a big responsibility to keep these kids safe and entertained. You must have a background check – which can be through the school district or employment. You will need to come early to call times and stay until the last kid is picked up. You will need to attend both dress rehearsals and all but one of the performances. No exceptions. You will need to be able to give your full attention to the kids with no distractions. We need mostly moms, but can use a few dads as well!

Apparel – We work on organizing apparel orders and working with the screen printer. When apparel orders arrive we organize a pick up day and hand them out to the cast.

Costumes – You don’t have to be a great sewer, but hot glue skills and ability to wash costumes is very helpful. We’ll need you to help for a 3 hour slot during costume fittings and a 3 hour slot during group pictures. You will also need to help backstage twice during performance week: one dress rehearsal and one performance. Since you’ll already be backstage, you won’t be required to chaperone.

Hair/Makeup  We help the dance soloists with their custom makeup for picture day, dress rehearsal and performances. We are also the quality control hair and makeup for the rest of the cast performance week.

Photography We help run our Scrooge photo day. We help dancers get in and out of costumes and help manage dancers  for their pictures. We run the checking in and out of the dancers on photo day and help them take their photo orders.

Boutique – Great for the crafty and the non-crafty as well! No sewing or skills required! We will work together to collaborate ideas and create items to be sold at the boutique as well as help sell the items on the night of the performances and assist in set up and take down. We will be given an item to complete and the opportunity to complete it on a night chosen by the committee all together, or on your own time. This is a great committee to be on the week of the show! Usually only 1 shift is required so everyone gets to see the show.

Backstage – We help run backstage during dress rehearsals and performances. We help you get trained during staging. We must wear all black during performances as we move props on/off stage.

Props  Props committee builds, maintains, and repairs production props. This year we need committee members who are handy with tools and/or woodworking as well as those with basic sewing skills. We have a few larger props to build, a couple repairs to make, and protective covers to sew for existing props to prevent damage during storage and transportation.

Sponsorships
We are responsible for securing financial support from local businesses and promoting upcoming performances. A team of dedicated parents contacts businesses, primarily via email, to request donations in exchange for advertising opportunities and complimentary tickets. The committee also handles promotional activities, including posting flyers, yard signs, and spreading the word about the shows. These efforts help sustain the collective’s activities and foster community engagement in the arts.

Fundraisers
We help run our Trunk or Treat Fundraising event and silent auction. We help set up the logistics of the events and put together the online silent auction. We work with organizations to get them to donate baskets.

Teachers
Do you have dance experience or dance teaching experience? Teach one of our Scrooge dances at our weekly rehearsals.

Promotions/Social media
We help promote our production by hanging up posters at local businesses and handing out yard signs. We help get new signs ordered. We also find creative ways to promote Scrooge in the local community.

Transportation (of props and costumes)
We help with moving costumes, sets, props, and other necessary items between locations. This team’s work is crucial during costume fitting days, picture day, and performance days, ensuring everything arrives on time and in good condition. Most of our moves are quick and take less than an hour to complete. Members are also responsible for breaking down sets and loading equipment after the final performance. Their efforts ensure smooth transitions and efficient handling of DPAC’s assets. Please consider joining this committee if you have an enclosed trailer and are willing to donate the use of that trailer for a few days or evenings to help move costumes.
